Kubey Carve Fipper Folding Knife, AUS10, G10 Black, KB237G

Kubey Carve A budget friendly EDC that really offers value for money. It is about the same size as the RAT 1, which I consider a large knife, but that is an eye of the beholder thing. It is also the same size, give or take, as the Civivi Baklash, or the Bestechman Ronan. Many people will find this a nice size. The blade is bead blasted and a Tanto Point. It comes in two steels, AUS 10, like this one, and D2. I got AUS 10 as I have no experience with that steel and wanted to try it. It comes to a fine edge, has a semi fuller in the blade, and has some jimping on top. I have used it but not enough to comment on the steel yet. It has steel liners with lots of hollowing on them to reduce weight, but it is not a light knife. It is average. The pocket clip is good, but while the clip is recessed, the screw is not and it does catch on your pants. It has good action, running on ceramic caged bearings. I use the flipper, but I can finger flick it with the fuller, but the detent is strong and it isn’t the easiest thing to do. The G10 scales are made of good materials, there is some chamfering along the edges, but it does have hot spots along the edges in my hand. But make no mistake, it is a good value knife. But when I compare it to, let’s say, the Bestechman Ronan, I prefer the Ronan. It is cheaper, has contouring, is more comfortable in the hand, has a completely recessed clip and otherwise has good fit and finish. So let me put it this way – if you like it’s look, you will get a good EDC with good materials, good fit and finish, a good price, great action, and you won’t be disappointed. Could you get better value? Probably, but if you like it, so what?[My rating reflects the price and value.]
