TOPS D Fly 4.5 Fixed Blade Knife, 1095 Carbon, Micarta, Leather Sheath, DFLY-4.5
[TOPSDFLY4.5]

$395.99CDN $239.99CDN

First impressions: Tops dragon fly 4.5. It's a bigger knife than I thought from on line impressions. And yet smaller. Compared to the tops brothers of bushcraft knife, it is lighter and thinner. It also lacks gimping or a choil or finger guard of any kind. It looks to be closer to what I'd imagined a true historical kephart knife would look like. And as such feels closer to the ideal true bushcrafter knife. No shango notch to be frustrated with, but the only part of the knife spine that consistently throws sparks from a ferro rod is where the spine thins at the tip. But, there it throws a shower of them. No problems with a ferro rod. Just be cautious doing this, if your hands were wet or slippery, you do have the sharp edge to think about whilst striking sparks.

Shaving sharp, great slicer, and wood working, makes easy work of feather sticks, and notch cutting. I haven't tried batonning, and not sure if I will, not because the knife won't be capable, but I'm going to try the trio of tools theory, with the dragonfly, a small wetterlings belt axe and a folding kershaw saw for camping/backpacking wood processing, bush craft.

Not sold on the sheath, looks like it will tie into my pack easily, and it's a bit tacticool, but it seems to work. The only real weirdness is that the knife only fits one way, and it fits loosely.

Well those are my first impressions.
