WE Knife 606A Flipper Framelock Knife, S35VN Two-Tone, Titanium Blue, 606A

This is a beautiful knife that has one significant flaw that can be remediated. This is an expensive knife, but it is a fair price given the fit, finish, the quality of the materials, the design, the action, and the blade. So let’s unpack all this. It is just a somewhat unique and beautiful design with a lot of nice features. The color is really striking. It has a kind of two-tone thing going on that is gorgeous. It is a bit blue and a bit purple and the screws and collar and pivot screw contrast and highlight the purple features of the knife. I am not a big purple guy, but it really works on this knife. [I will say it will not be everyone’s taste. Some may see the color as gimmicky or cartoonish, but it really impresses me. It is lovely.] Even the blade is artistic. It has a fuller and a hole that isn’t functional but it really looks good with the contrast in colors and grinds. And while we are on the blade, the steel is a nice steel (s35VN) and it has a really unique grind. It has a several bevels and grinds that you just won’t see on a production knife. It is very sharp and even little things like the polish is reflective. What is more the coating on the fuller and around the hole is nice. It is just a really nice blade. Think of this as a design knife and so things like the fuller shouldn’t put you off. You’re not using this knife around the farm if you know what I mean. The action is really really good. It snaps open on the ceramic bearings and has a very pleasant sound. I have a lot of knives but the action on this is spectacular. WE really hit the detent perfectly on this knife. So what is the glitch? It comes with weird hardware. The screws are raised stars – think of it as a raised Torx screw instead of a recessed screw – and it comes with a little tool to remove them to service the knife. The problem is it can be really easy to strip the screws. That just isn’t good. But the good news? I wrote WE and raised my concern with them and they sent me a new set of Torx screws, all in the same color, and all of them titanium. In fact, they sent me two sets, “just in case”. I took out the old screws, put the old ones in the original cover and box in case I ever sell the knife and the purchaser wants the original screws, and problem solved. WE is so good to deal with and it was so easy to fix. So in the end? I love this knife. It is art in a production knife more than a tool, but so what? It is great.
